Pregabalin is a structural analogue of the neurotransmitter GABA, consequently it belongs to the γ-Aminobutyric acid analogue class of antiepileptic drugs. Its a ion channel modulator that has analgesic, anticonvulsivo, sedante, y propiedades ansiolíticas. Pregabalin is a potent gabapentinoid and close analogue of GABOB (β-hydroxy-GABA), baclofeno (β-(4-clorofenilo)-GABA), y fenibu (β-phenyl-GABA).
Pregabalin is indicated for:
1. Treatment of neuropathic pain from diabetic neuropathy or post herpetic neuralgia. There is not enough data to state that it should be used in all neuropathic pain.
2. Adjunctive therapy in adults with partial seizures with or without secondary generalization
3. Fibromyalgia
4. Generalized anxiety disorder
