Description:
CLA has been gaining a lot of attention within the fitness industry and is a growing popularity amongst gym goers, bodybuilders, and individuals looking to burn fat.
Being essential means these fatty acids cannot be produced by the body alone and therefore must be consumed through the diet. CLA has a series of functions within the body, whereby its consumption is required for normal food and energy metabolism and to achieve a healthy nutritional status. CLA can be found in common foods that come from animal products, including meat and dairy, however, a large growth in interest in CLA supplements has recently emerged in relation to its weight loss and other health benefits.
CLA is marketed in dietary supplement form for its supposed anti-cancer benefit (for which there is no evidence) and as a bodybuilding aid.A 2004 review of the evidence said that while CLA seemed to benefit animals, there was a lack of good evidence of human health benefits, despite the many claims made for it.
CLA has no useful benefit for overweight or obese people as it has no long-term effect on body composition.
CLA has shown an effect on insulin response in diabetic rats but there is no evidence of this effect in humans.
