La description:
Miconazole nitrate is a kind of antifungal agent which is the drug “Dakelin” which we are familiar with as commonly used drugs for treating skin ringworm. It has various kinds of effects. It inhibit the biosynthesis of ergosterol which is the fungal cell membrane component, causing damage to the cell membrane structure, increasing the membrane permeability, resulting in the leakage of the intracellular components and inhibiting the glucose utilization, preventing the nutrient uptake, and finally leading to fungal cell death. It is therefore suitable for the treatment of tinea, jock itch, ringworm, athlete’s foot, tinea versicolor and paronychomycosis as well as the vaginal infection and secondary infection caused by the yeast (such as Candida) and Gram-positive bacteria. It is also effective in treating otitis externa and bacterial skin infections.
The common adverse reactions and side effects of miconazole nitrate include: occasional allergy, blisters, burning feeling, rougeur, itching or other skin irritation. Very rare angioedema, urticaria, eczéma, contact dermatitis, erythema, pelvic pain (cramps), vaginal irritation, vaginal secretions and discomfort in the administration site. Anti-inflammatory or antiinflammatory refers to the property of a substance or treatment that reduces inflammation or swelling. Anti-inflammatory drugs make up about half of analgesics, remedying pain by reducing inflammation as opposed to opioids, which affect the central nervous system.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) alleviate pain by counteracting the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme. On its own, COX enzyme synthesizes prostaglandins, creating inflammation. In whole, the NSAIDs prevent the prostaglandins from ever being synthesized, reducing or eliminating the pain. Some common examples of NSAIDs are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. The newer specific COX-inhibitors are not classified together with the traditional NSAIDs even though they presumably share the same mode of action. D'autre part, there are analgesics that are commonly associated with anti-inflammatory drugs but that have no anti-inflammatory effects. An example is paracetamol (known as acetaminophen in the U.S). As opposed to NSAIDs, which reduce pain and inflammation by inhibiting COX enzymes, paracetamol has – as early as 2006 – been shown to block the reuptake of endocannabinoids, which only reduces pain, likely explaining why it has minimal effect on inflammation.
Application:
1. For serious infections caused by Candida species, including peritonitis, pneumonia and bladder infections. Miconazole nitrate can also be used for the treatment of the secondary infection due to the Gram-positive bacteria.
2. The area administration can be used treating chronic and extensive mucocutaneous candidiasis, vulvovaginitis candidiasis, tinea, ringworm, jork itch, athlete’s foot, tinea versicoeor and paronychomycosis due to various kinds of dermatophytes, yeast as well as other kinds of fungus.
3. Intravenous administration from it can be used for treating serious cryptococcosis, coccidioidomycosis and vice coccidioidomycosis.
Miconazole is mainly used externally for the treatment of athlete’s foot, ringworm, and jock itch. Internal application is used for oral or vaginal thrush (yeast infection). The oral gel may also be used for the lip disorder angular cheilitis.
In the UK, miconazole may be used to treat neonatal oral thrush, while the alternative nystatin is only licensed for patients over the age of one month, but drug interactions are possible.
Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent, developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica, commonly applied topically to the skin or to mucous membranes to cure fungal infections. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. It can also be used against certain species of Leishmania protozoa which are a type of unicellular parasites that also contain ergosterol in their cell membranes. In addition to its antifungal and antiparasitic actions, it also has some antibacterial properties. It is marketed in various formulations under various brand names. Miconazole is also used in Ektachrome film developing in the final rinse of the Kodak E-6 process and similar Fuji CR-56 process, replacing formaldehyde. Fuji Hunt also includes miconazole as a final rinse additive in their formulation of the C-41RA rapid access color negative developing process.
