Beschreibung

Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIA) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. The pharmacological action of ketoprofen is similar to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins. Ketoprofen is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhea, and to alleviate moderate pain.The anti-inflammatory effect of ketoprofen is thought to be due to inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme involved in prostaglandin synthesis via the arachidonic acid pathway. This results in a decrease in the level of prostaglandins, which can relieve pain, fever and inflammation. Ketoprofen is a non-specific cyclooxygenase inhibitor, and inhibition of COX-1 is thought to cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disorders and ulcers. Ketoprofen is believed to have anti-bradykinase activity and lysosomal membrane stabilization. The antipyretic effect may be due to the action on the hypothalamus, resulting in increased peripheral blood flow,vasodilation and subsequent heat dissipation.
